04.02.21 I spent two wonderful relaxing weeks in a junior beachfront suite. The room is very cosy and stylishly decorated. The bathroom is huge. You can look at the ocean from the bathtub. Everything is neat and clean. One has a direct sea view even from the bed. Because of the strict state-mandatory quarantine requirements, you can admire the sea, which is just a stone’s throw away, only from the patio/lawn.

Food was always an experience. I eat vegan and loved the cooking skills. Every day there was a new menu with starters, mains and desserts. One could choose from 3 dishes each and if there were special requests, the staff responded in a friendly way. The food is brought and placed in front of the door by a butler, especially assigned for the period of your stay. I communicate with the butler via Whatsapp or phone. He is the contact person for almost all matters – always friendly and courteous. He was readily available at all times, especially if there was a concern.

I really highly recommend this luxury hotel. Quarantine time is becoming such a time of rest and relaxation. The delicious food (vegan in my case) and the beautiful sea views are the highlights. Unfortunately, as a guest, you must leave the hotel directly after quarantine and can’t extend. I very much hope that this beautiful hotel will soon be able to serve as an oasis for all vacationers.

09.02.21 Once arrived at the hotel (Prince Maurice), we were greeted by the general manager and his team, all dressed in protective gowns with head covering, surgical masks and goggles. After a quick small briefing on the restrictions, sanitary protocols, and daily temperature checks (twice a day), we were immediately taken to our room.

The room is very spacious with a sitting area, big en-suite bathroom and large terrace. All cleaning supplies were provided to us as we are responsible for it. Room is clean and bright. WIFI is great. There is a daily changing lunch and dinner menu set and fixed breakfast menu that you can choose from. There is also a fixed all-day dining menu available to choose from. All food is included in the package at no extra cost. (Alcoholic drinks are not included but a full mini bar is available, along with wine and cocktail list, all at your own cost). Our first meals today were exceptional! We landed at 1.30pm and we were in our hotel room by 3.50pm. Overall we could not have asked for a better 1st day! Contributor Bridget Hughes

Contributor Benjalill Raheemeea

21.01.21 Here is a place where you are spoiled, surrounded by nature. Great service too, all the team is dedicated to making you feel at home. The food is amazing.

Arrived last Saturday we highly recommend this heavenly place. We will definitely remember those 2 weeks as a great experience and do not look forward to being freed!! I was particularly reluctant with the idea of two weeks of quarantine, and we waited a long time before deciding to come back. Even without the possibility of walking on the beach and feel the ocean, we admire it every day.

THANK you to the entire team for your dedication for making our quarantine so nice. Thank you, too, Constance group to have opened Le Prince Maurice as a quarantine centre. Contributor KB

REVIEW 1

10.01.21 Today is day 13 of my quarantine in Mauritius. My husband, I needed to return quite urgently to Mauritius at short notice. We were fortunate to be able to reserve a 1-bedroom beachfront villa with private pool at Constance Le Prince Maurice.

From the time of booking, the communication with the hotel was instant to confirm any special requirements we might have and to ensure we had provided them with necessary copies of NIC etc in advance.

We had a very long trip to arrive in Mauritius on the 28th December, 3 flights/48 hours of travelling. Unfortunately, on arrival in Mauritius, our luggage did not get loaded on the last leg from Paris (despite an 8-hour transit time there and having our baggage receipts checked at the transit desk to ensure this would not happen). Air Mauritius’ handling of the situation was very disappointing. We were not offered even a toothbrush when told on arrival that our baggage was not there. My complaint emails to their baggage department at their head office remain unanswered to date.

The COVID test done at the airport after passing through immigration was swift, a little more uncomfortable than others I have had done, but not overly painful. The heath staff were friendly and courteous. They then directed us to a small mini van with other passengers who were also staying at Le Prince Maurice. The van had no boot space, so all the suitcases we loaded inside the cabin of the van itself. We waited approximately an hour and a half before leaving the airport. The drive to the hotel was very fast, a little scary at times. With the police escort, we were speeding towards on-coming traffic at times. I was not sure what the hurry was after we had already waited so long at the airport. We were all wearing masks, but oddly, the driver had his mask pulled down below his chin.

We arrived at the hotel mid-afternoon and were greeted with smiling faces of staff, hand sanitizer and offered a cool drink. The Hotel Manager Mr Dominique Autrey welcomed us and explained how meals, temperature checks, etc would work over the coming 14 days. We were introduced to various staff, including the Executive Chef Michael Scioli and Guest Relations Manager Sylvabelle Angeline whom we could contact by Whatsapp directly, and also with a Whatsapp number for the ‘One Stop Service’ for any requests we may have.

The villa we are in is beautiful and was an absolute delight to walk into after our long journey. The villas have a large lounge/dining area, separate powder room, main bathroom, outdoor shower area (which was wonderful for hanging clothes to dry) a large terrace with dining table, day bed and private swimming pool right on the beach, and two sunbeds on a grassed area in front of the terrace. There is a fence with a rope which limits us to the grassed area in front of our terrace only, with no access to the beach, which is, of course, expected. Thankfully for us with no luggage for a few days, the villa was fully stocked with toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo/conditioner/body lotion/hand sanitizer/dressing gowns/slippers etc, and luckily for us we could have a family member drop a few essentials off to us. There was all we needed in terms of mop/broom/cleaning products/washing bucket clothes/mosquito spray and coils/tea towel/kitchen paper etc provided.

The day after arrival the hotel Director Mr Christophe Plantier phoned us to check we had settled in well and if there was anything we needed and to let us know that the hotel had planned something nice for New Year’s Eve.

The hotel kindly loaned us a spin bike to use during our stay, but I assume this would be on an availability basis, but they can arrange for hire of gym equipment at your cost through an external provider should you wish.

The food has been nothing short of amazing. Breakfast is a la carte from a breakfast menu with a large choice. And you phone in your order and request the time you would like it between 7-10am. Lunch and Dinner menus for each day are provided in advance and every meal the menu changes and you have a choice of 3 entrées, 3 mains and 4 desserts. There are always vegan options for every meal, and the choices are always varied and with fresh ingredients. There is also an all-day menu available from midday to 9pm, and crepes and waffles between 4-5pm on request. All meals are served on plates. We keep our cutlery and wash this ourselves.

I eat a lot of salads, and the staff are always so willing to accommodate these requests, even for breakfast. I even had one dish that I really loved one day and asked the Executive Chef Michael Scioli if it would be possible to have this again at some point prior to our departure. He responded straight away and said he would arrange this the very next day for lunch for us.

I think the food is one of the things which has surprised us the most. We were not sure what to expect as it is a unique quarantine situation, but it is truly up to the level of the 5* standing of Le Prince Maurice. And we always look forward to seeing what will be on the next menu that we receive.

The room has a minibar with water and milk provided, Nespresso machine and capsules, as well as other payable items, however you can order wine from the hotel’s wine list which is offered at a 15% discount from their usual rate and there are some very affordable options on there.

We spent the 31st of December here and thankfully our baggage arrived late that afternoon, so we decided to dress up for the evening and also to celebrate the safe arrival of our suitcases 😃. We were able to order champagne from the hotel, but to our delight we were also offered a half bottle of champagne by the hotel, together with a beautiful chocolate Buche de Noel. The degustation menu provided, which was served in staged deliveries for the 31st evening, was just beautiful. The hotel even provided us with tablecloths, candles, streamers, glow sticks, flashing party hat and masquerade mask. To be honest, both my husband and I agreed it was one of the best new year’s eve we have had. Just the two of us, making the most of the situation we are lucky to be doing together. With the blue tooth speaker provided in the room, we played music, danced around and stayed up to throw our streamers at midnight and could see the fireworks that were done at Jalsa Beach on the opposite side of the bay. The hotel also provided other little extra surprises for breakfast on 1st January.

We even received a Galette des Rois on the 6th January, which was again a lovely surprise, and which did not last long 🙊😉

Our meals and regular linen/towel change requirements are delivered to a stand on a tray outside our room by the jovial Hurry and Kiren who always have a smile and have made sure we have been well looked after during our stay. Any items we needed were replenished whether it be more loo paper, extra clothes washing soap etc are always promptly responded to. Once we finish with meals, we leave the dishes on the tray outside our door.

The health officers who take our temperature daily at 8.30am and 5pm are very nice, and the female doctor who carried out our Day 7 covid test was very gentle. By far the best experience I have had for a nasal swab to date.

The service from all staff has been wonderful, including the staff answering the room service phone to take our meal orders, and to those looking after the one-stop service line. The security who patrols the beach and gardeners we see from a distance are just as polite. We could not fault anything.

Wi-Fi is perfectly fine in the villa and on the terrace.

If your budget and circumstances permit, I would highly recommend Constance Le Prince Maurice to anyone looking to book their quarantine if you want to feel as though it is a holiday in a tranquil paradise rather than quarantine. The hotel also has rooms without pools in another price range, which I am sure would be equally comfortable for the stay.

I have included some pictures of the villa we are in, but also of samples of daily meal menus, food and some other images which I hope are useful.

A big thank you to the team at Constance Le Prince Maurice for really going above and beyond. You really have exceeded our expectations. If we had to go through quarantine in Mauritius again, we would definitely count ourselves extremely fortunate if we could do it here again. Contributor Claudine Lake
