Hiking: Tamarind Falls

Tamarind-falls

These waterfalls are on the edge of the Black River Gorges, South West of Curepipe. You can get there through La Marie and Henrietta, a pleasant drive through smallholdings.

Wade through tropical undergrowth and an abundance of palm and banana trees to reach your reward, a set of seven waterfalls deep in the jungle.

The 5-8 kilometre hike will take between 3 and 5 hours, and is rated at a difficulty of 3 out of 5. Steph, originally from Mauritius, has a delightful travel blog site which talks about 39 Mauritian places to go. Entertain yourself by reading through her blog: https://www.letsventureout.com/category/destinations/mauritius/

If you’re the adventurous type, you may prefer to abseil from chute to chute. You can do that on a half-day or full-day excursion operated by Vertical World or Otelair. They’ll pick you up from Henrietta, where you will also find guides for the hike. You can get lost in the forest leading to the Tamarind Falls; we advise the use of a guide.
